{"id":1400,"date":"2014-06-24T10:35:56","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T17:35:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arleneeakle.com\/wordpress\/?p=1400"},"modified":"2014-06-24T14:22:31","modified_gmt":"2014-06-24T21:22:31","slug":"genealogy-records-are-where-you-find-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arleneeakle.com\/wordpress\/2014\/06\/24\/genealogy-records-are-where-you-find-them\/","title":{"rendered":"Genealogy Records are where you find them&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went on the Relief Society Train Trip last week.\u00a0 We drove to Ogden Utah to catch the <em><strong>FrontRunner<\/strong><\/em> Train to Salt Lake City Utah.\u00a0 Had never done the train&#8230;and we sat on the second level where we could see all over.\u00a0 Then we transferred to the <em><strong>Trax<\/strong><\/em> Train to downtown SLC.<\/p>\n<p>There were 24 ladies, some young with new baby girls.\u00a0 Some mother-daughter combos (including me&#8211;my daughter serves as a Councillor in the Presidency of the local group).\u00a0 Some elderly ladies, one in a wheel chair.\u00a0 And a great time was had by all.<\/p>\n<p>We ate lunch at the <strong>Nauvoo Cafe<\/strong> in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.\u00a0 Then had a group photo taken with an old-time camera.\u00a0 Had to hold still without moving for 5 seconds&#8211;picture turned out well with everyone laughing.<\/p>\n<p>Then we toured the <strong>Relief Society Building<\/strong>.\u00a0 Built largely with donations from the members:\u00a0 In October 1947, General President Belle Spafford asked each member to donate $5.00 and each LDS Stake Relief Society to donate 50% of their yearly budget. The original list of all those members who donated is in the Cornerstone of the building, placed in October 1954. A typed list fills many loose-leaf binders in the Records Room.\u00a0 And they have a digital list online of the more than 123,000 women who donated their $5.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">My mom (with her name spelled wrong), two of my aunts, my mother-in-law, and various other relatives are on the list!\u00a0 With their local church units identified.\u00a0 I discovered that my two aunts attended the same congregation.\u00a0 Very cool.<\/p>\n<p>Members in Europe and the British Isles were not allowed to send money out of their respective countries this close to the end of World War II.\u00a0 So they sent works of art&#8211;some glorious porcelains and paintings which adorn the building.\u00a0 This building houses the World headquarters of three women&#8217;s auxiliaries:\u00a0 Primary (children), Young Women (12-17 years), and the Relief Society (adult women 18 years and up).<\/p>\n<p>You can access the online database at\u00a0 <a title=\"Women who donated $5.00\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\">https:\/\/www.lds.org<\/a>\u00a0 Put &#8220;R.
