When my husband Alma was diagnosed twelve years ago, he was given three months to live; he actually made it 9 1\/2 months. The tumors had spread to his liver, his spleen, and finally to his esophagus.<\/p>\n<p>Now, this third most fatal cancer still gives 75% of patients 3-6 months from diagnosis. Some do last longer&#8211;Patrick Swayze survived for 22 months.<\/p>\n<p>On the horizon is the hope of tailor-made treatment based on the DNA of each individual. Costly medicine and even so the hope of those who need it.
