Dr. Steve Morse of San Francisco is a computer guru for Netscape.\u00a0 He and his friends designed and launched the search utility\u00a0 that simplified access to Ellis Island data, and he spoke on his One Step website today. What many genealogists, including me, do not know is that this remarkable site has some 150 different\u00a0 search tools\u2013to connect you to your ancestry faster and make your searches\u00a0 easier and more effective: vital records, passenger lists, naturalizations, calendars, family relationships, and many other genealogy sources and research skills.<\/p>\n
So I attended his sessions to see him demonstrate his One Step tools.\u00a0 I had visited his website before, searched for immigrants who came to the US through Ellis Island.\u00a0 I even did a Genealogy News Sheet post on what I discovered.\u00a0 And I am amazed at the speed data is captured.\u00a0 We are the beneficiaries of hundreds of hours of highly skilled and polished computer volunteers\u2013people who stepped forward when Dr. Morse needed help with specific tasks or resources.<\/p>\n
