I have received several requests from Genealogy Blog Writers and Publications Editors to use segments from these Genealogy News Sheet issues for their own readers. This is one of the reasons for my writing it. And I have not copyrighted separately.
You may quote from my blog to provide copy and instruction in your blogs and quarterlies. Please credit: Arlene Eakle’s Genealogy News Sheet in blog format, http://www.arleneeakle.com.
I want you subscribers to know just how hard I work for you. Because I am a professional genealogist, and your favorite genealogist at that, I am literally forced to watch the new book shelves at the Family History Library every week. It’s a tough job and someone has to do it–might as well be me! And because I really do care if you find your hard-to-find ancestors, I persevere–all the time watching for newly transcribed records and new search strategies.
Arlene Eakle’s VIRGINIA Genealogy Blog Announced:
14 February 2008 is the BIG DAY for the launch of my new blog: Arlene Eakle’s VIRGINIA Genealogy Blog on all things genealogy research in Virginia. You know that I have shelves and boxes and books and file drawers on genealogy research in Virginia. And research files and many research clients whose ancestors come from Virginia–some who only have Virginia research for several generations.
And if I had my druthers, I would only do family research on Virginia problems–including Kentucky, West Virginia, parts of North Carolina, parts of Pennsylvania, parts of Ohio, parts of Tennessee, all of which were claimed at one time by Virginia, because “In the Beginning, All Was Virginia.”
Watch this Genealogy News Sheet for further information on the new launch and the web address link. Now don’t say to me, “I have no Virginia ancestors and no interest in research there.” Why? Because the strategies, the new sources I have discovered are now available, and the research process I use to trace Virginians applies to research in the majority of states and countries. Even Eastern Europe. You will learn a great deal of new stuff that will directly apply to your own ancestry–is you are smart enough to tune in.
Family History Expo, Dixie Center, St. George UT 8-9 Feb 2008
The Pirates of the Pedigree cannot steal your ancestry unless you let them. Attend this event and learn how to stop them in their tracks! I am speaking two sessions on 8 Feb and two sessions on 9 Feb–these are sessions I don’t give often. So you may not hear them again for a while, and I am quite excited to share all this new stuff with you:
- Why Property Records are Important in Tracing Hard-to-Find Ancestors, 8 Feb 11:30 am
- Why Bounty Land Records are Important for Virginia Research, 8 Feb 1:00 pm
- Your Genealogy May Already Be Compiled: Identifying and Using Collections of British Researchers, 9 Feb 9:30 am
- Migration Patterns Into and Out Of Southwestern Pennsylvania, 9 Feb 2:30 pm (This is a brand new topic!)
If you haven’t already registered, this is The Conference to attend–I have read over the full program and it is truly amazing! 100 sessions presented by some of the best speakers the genealogy world has to offer. And an exhibit hall that will take the full two days to visit all the vendors and see what is new and exciting in this genealogy world.
I have a booth with my new stuff (and my old, tried and true stuff as well). Almost wish I didn’t have a booth to tie me down and I could attend the sessions and wander the exhibits.
This year The Conference is co-sponsored by familysearch.org. Several sessions will describe the new FamilySearch and its essential parts. None of us want to miss these sessions–since this newly designed system has only been released in specific places and not in Utah–yet.
Register at http://www.myancestorsfound.com.
Remember, I’ll watch for you in my classes and stopping by my booth in the exhibit hall. Your favorite genealogist, Arlene Eakle
PS Genealogy evidence is where you find it–stay tuned.
