Ancestors from Wales and Where They Settled in America

By now, you know that I am 3/4 Welsh–so Welsh family history is of considerable interest to me. This sentence struck me when I read it. “Numerous men born to Irish parents living in Wales…so there is no substitute for close scrutiny of the census schedules.”

This came from Robert Llewellyn Tyler in his book Wales and the American Dream published in 2015 by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. His research was based in Lady Stephenson Library, Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Substantial Welsh settlements are to be found:
Bevier, Macon County Missouri–coal miners
Sharon, Mercer County Pennsylvania–steel workers
Youngstown Ohio–steel workers
Poultney, Rutland County Vermont–slate workers
Emporia, Lyon County Kansas–mercantile opportunity

There is a lot we don’t know about the Welsh who came to this county early and late. Your favorite genealogist, Arlene Eakle http://arleneeakle.com
